about me

I'm Chris Roberts, a software developer turned managing director and business owner in Cheltenham, England.

I live with my fantastic wife, Rachel (copywriter extraordinaire) who supports me in all that I do.

In the last 24 years I have written software ranging from device drivers for embedded systems (in assembler and C) through to complete business applications (mostly in VB.NET).

I like finding solutions to problems, working out better ways of doing things and generally setting challenges for myself!

my career

I have worked in the software industry for about 17 years - initially as a one-man-band in my spare time whilst at school. I also worked for a while in partnerships both with my dad and my best friend.

In 2004 I joined firehoop as lead developer. Together with the MD and a designer we provided high quality, bespoke website design and development for a range of clients. A few years later I completed a management buyout and have been growing the business ever since.

why SolutionMania?

Running a business presents many challenges.

As I find solutions to the many problems I deal with, I intend to document the decisions I make and the conclusions I draw on this blog. Primarily this will be for my own benefit, but hopefully my experiences will be of use to someone else, too!

I'm also hoping that it will provide a means of improving my writing skills (although having re-read some of my posts, that might take a while!).
